Evolutions opens new facilities in Primrose Hill

Evolutions is delighted to announce a new facility based in Shine TV’s production offices in Gloucester Avenue, Primrose Hill.

Comprising 20 Avid offline suites over 4,000 square feet, the facility, which opens for business on 8th May, will be home to some of Shine TV’s most complex productions such as Hunted and The Island for Channel 4 and the new entertainment show for Sky One, Loot, amongst many others.

The investment of over £750,000 is part of a new output deal between Shine TV and Evolutions. It includes Avid offline suites, a purpose built MCR area and various client break out areas. The facility is designed by Owen Tyler, Technical Director, with the aim of mirroring the look and feel of Evolutions’ other buildings. It will be connected by dark fibre to Evolutions’ Soho offices, enabling complex media ingest and management to be handled remotely by Evolutions’ 24/7 edit support team. Final post will be carried out by Evolutions’ top creative team in Soho.

Evolutions will be employing a team of 6 people to run the facility in Primrose Hill, supported by the Soho team at all times.

Alan Williams, Shine TV’s Director of Production said ‘We are delighted to forge this new relationship and bring Soho post production service levels and expertise under our roof here. We are very happy to be able to collaborate closely with such a fantastic team and provide our productions with the best level of post support within our own offices.’

Simon Kanjee, Evolutions’ MD said ‘This is a very exciting opportunity not only to work on some excellent and challenging programmes, but also to change the post model somewhat. Technology now enables us to provide Soho quality facilities anywhere in London. We can expand our business by creating new close relationships with our clients, and expect to replicate this model elsewhere.’

“On recent projects about the poets John Betjeman and Philip Larkin we needed those with a lyric creativity from beginning to end and James added those final elegant touches in Online to ensure that even the credits added to the charm of the completed films!”

What people say about Nick

“Nick King is the finest video editor I’ve worked with in 30 years in television – and I’ve worked with the very best. He is nothing less than a magician of the genre. His fingers play the desk like a musical instrument, literally blurring as they pass over the keys at light speed. Not only this, but he is a gentleman, a philosopher and an astronomer of the first order. He makes you laugh and he makes you think. He converses when you need to chew things over, and he is silent when it is seemly. When you are absent (even more brilliantly) uncalled-for stuff is done invisibly, when you are out of the room at night and in the morning before you arrive. This man will transform your work and yet he will never take a shred of the credit. Book him, I beg you (when I am on holiday).”

John Lloyd, Series Producer – QI

“I loved working with Nick at Evolutions. We put together an innovatory work flow using the Red One cameras, 300 fx shots and a 5.1 mix and Nick took everything in his stride: making everything seem straightforward and effortless. He had a complete grasp on both technical and creative aspects of the production and nothing was ever too much trouble, no matter how many times I changed my mind! Actually, I didn’t change my mind, not even once. Yes, I did. No, I didn’t. Anyway, I look forward to working with him again.  Nick rocks. No, he doesn’t. Yes, he does!!”

Nick Dixon

Nick Dixon

Editor

About Nick

Nick began his television career in 1992 as a Studio Engineer at Ravensbourne, before progressing to ‘The Family Channel’ at the Maidstone Studios in the Engineering department. It was during his time here that Nick realised he had an allergic reaction to cardigans and sandals with socks so decided to knock engineering on the head!

After hearing the London Streets were ‘paved with gold’ Nick undertook a variety of roles in Soho ranging from a VT Op to an Edit Assistant at Soho 61.

Nick started editing at Editworks in 2005, primarily on linear tape suites then moving onto DS. He continued on this for three years, specialising in online and graphic work and completed his first Symphony job (The Sexy Ads Show) in early 2008. Nick then moved to Evolutions as part of the ex-Editworks creatives team and as they say, the rest is history.
